Website Glossary:

Categorized products:

Relates to how an eCommerce site is organized.
Categories (1 level)
Example:
Category: networking solutions
Sub-categories (2 levels)
Example:
Sub-category: networking solutions - routers

Sub-sub-categories (3 levels)
Example:
Sub-category: networking solutions - routers - wired

Bulk uploading of products:

When keeping a large database of products it is more effective to upload multiple products at once.

CMS (content administration system):

Allows a user to make updates to every item of your site, including content, image gallery, product gallery / catalog, pricing, inventory, etc.

Domain:

A domain is the part of the web address that specify what the organization is and where the server is located. It is what the user types in the browser to find a website. 

Eg. www.microsoft.com to connect to Microsoft's website.

E-mail notifications:

Custom notifications via email to communicate your customer order related events or other messages.

Fully integrated Shopping Cart:

The shopping cart will be fully integrated into the website and will keep the same look of the site.

Functionality:

Functionalities involved in the website such as database infrastructure, code development and server level modifications.

Gallery of images:

A gallery of images is often used to show a set of photos, products, artwork, etc. in a specific section of a website.

Graphical eBanners:

Graphical banners are ads and/or suggestions that you strategically place on your website of your products and services with the purpose of involving the user into other areas.

Hosting:

A hosting server is the system where your web content will reside. A web server (or hosting server) needs to be ON always and should have backup features in order to guarantee that data will not be lost.

Importance of using Flash:

Flash animation allow for movement / interactivity for both online and offline projects. It can be also be used as a tool to impress your prospective clients and also teach your clients of new products or services.

Informative page:

When referring to websites, these are pages that contain informative content such as Company Profile, Overview, Services and FAQs. It does not include Catalog of Products or Image Gallery.

Integrated payment system:

Credit card information can be collected or processed directly on your site for online purchases or payments.

Member Registration System:

May be used for collecting user's information and/or to allow access to certain sections or content on a website.

Multiple shipping and sales tax options:

Option that is given on a website to calculate sales taxes and shipping options which will be adjusted to match your state's or country's requirements.

Online credit card processing:

PayPal's payment method is the preferred and trusted leader for online payments, but there many other online payments solutions that will allow for credit card processing and accept eChecks.

Online order status:

Users can log to their account or simply enter a tracking number to find the status of their order.

Order management system:

Online application implemented for your business to manage orders/inventory, run reports, keep customers information, etc.

PayPal shopping cart:

When adding an item to the shopping cart, it will open a PayPal's shopping cart in a separate window.

Product configuration:

Each individual product may have different models that can affect their pricing. Eg. 250 vs 350 horsepower vehicle.

Product gallery:

Allow the user to view your product from different perspectives or its different model options depending on your product characteristics.

Product in multiple categories:

Your product can be categorized by its characteristics to allow for better user's navigation when browsing your products. For example, you may want to have a list of an 8-ported switch in two different categories - eight ported solutions and switches.

Restricted Access via Login:

If you would like to display limited information to the public or specific private content to a set of users, a protected area with user name and password may be created.

Search tool:

A Search function is a tool that allows for easy access of your site's information by allowing the user to type a keyword on a search box which will then provide search results of pages related to that keyword.

Similar products:

While the user is browsing or making a purchase, a set of matching products with the purpose of matching his/her other interests can be shown in the same page/section.
Eg. 
When buying an Acura online, optional items such imported halogens can be shown on the right pane.

Users database:

A database of users allows for user's information collection by filling out an online form, registration system or other methods. It is useful to keep a database of users (or visitors) and provide them with options such as subscribe to newsletters in order to keep them connected to your business.

Web Content:

Current content of the site, including images, text, flash animation.

Web Design:

Look of the site (colors, style, etc.)

Web Layout:

Website current organization across pages and the inside the page itself

Web pages administrator:

Your website's administration panel can be programmed so that it allows the administrator to create/edit/delete web pages and automatically place them under specified menu areas. This is useful if you are planning to increase the number of pages on your site regularly.
